Every Megabyte training program is offered in three formats — in-house onsite, live online, and self-paced e-learning — each priced within its own HRD Corp allowable-cost band. Employers often default to whichever format they're used to, but the right choice depends on team size, urgency, and how hands-on the topic needs to be.
The three formats, side by side
| In-House Onsite | Live Online | E-Learning | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pricing basis | Per group / day | Per participant | Per participant |
| Best for | Whole-team capability building, hands-on exercises, confidential data | Multi-site teams joining one live session | Individuals, flexible schedules, lowest cost per learner |
| Interaction | Highest — in-person, live worked exercises | High — live Q&A and software demos | Self-paced, no live interaction |
| Setup cost | Venue/travel if off-site; otherwise none | None — join from anywhere | None — learn anytime |
| Cost per head (large team) | Lowest — one flat group fee covers up to 25 pax | Scales linearly per participant | Scales linearly per participant, at the lowest per-pax rate |
When onsite wins
For a single team of 10–25 people at one location, in-house onsite is usually the cheapest option per head — the fee is charged per group, not per participant, so the more people you send, the lower your effective cost per person. It's also the best format for hands-on topics — a DOE workshop with real factory data, or an ESG assessment tied to your actual operations, works best in person.
When live online wins
If your team is spread across multiple sites — say Penang and Johor factories, or a mix of headquarters and remote staff — live online lets everyone join the same session without travel cost. You still get live Q&A and software walkthroughs, just without the venue logistics.
When e-learning wins
For individual learners, staggered onboarding, or simply the lowest cost per person, e-learning is the clear choice. It also sits at the lowest HRD Corp allowable-cost tier, which matters if you're training a large headcount and want to stretch your levy balance across more staff — see our allowable cost limits guide for how the caps compare.

A simple rule of thumb
- Under 10 people, one site, hands-on topic → onsite.
- Multiple sites, need everyone together at once → live online.
- Individual learners, flexible timing, biggest headcount → e-learning.
- Mixed team → many employers combine formats — e.g. e-learning for the broad team, onsite for the core group who need hands-on practice.
Frequently asked questions
Can we mix formats across the same team?
Yes. Many employers enrol the wider team in e-learning for foundational coverage, then book an onsite or live-online session for a smaller group needing deeper, hands-on practice.
Is onsite always more expensive overall?
Not per head, for larger groups — since onsite is priced per group rather than per participant, a full 20–25 person group often costs less per person than the same group enrolled individually online.
Are all three formats HRD Corp claimable?
Yes, across our programs all three formats are HRD Corp claimable for eligible Malaysian employers, each within its own allowable-cost tier.
