Smart Farming Technology with IoT
Turn your farm into a smart farm. Learn to implement IoT sensors, automatic irrigation and drones to raise productivity and cut resource waste — delivered in-house onsite, live online, or as self-paced e-learning.
What a Smart Farm Runs On
What makes a farm a "smart farm"?
A smart farm connects the field to the cloud. IoT sensors continuously measure soil moisture, temperature, humidity and nutrients; a central controller turns that data into action — automating irrigation and alerting you to problems; and drones handle spraying and crop-health monitoring from above. The result is higher productivity with less water, fertilizer and labour.
This HRD Corp claimable program transfers the concept and hands-on know-how to set up a smart farm with IoT technology — from sensors and controllers to automatic irrigation and drones. It's led by Dr. Steven Chai, an automatic-irrigation specialist and smart-farming practitioner who runs his own technology-driven vanilla farm.

Dr. Steven Chai
Smart Farming & Irrigation Specialist
- • PhD, Electrical Engineering — UTM
- • Automatic-irrigation specialist (10+ acre farms)
- • IoT-enabled farming & generative AI certified
Dr. Steven Chai pairs deep engineering and automation expertise with real, hands-on agriculture. He designed and implemented irrigation for farms over 10 acres and landmark sites including Woodlands Checkpoint, ITE College East, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, YTL Data Centers and Tiong Nam Logistics, with irrigation specialisation training from Singapore's WSQ and Hunter.
Since 2019 he has run his own vanilla farm as a testing ground for advanced farm technology — completing the full planting-to-harvest cycle and earning features on TV8, Oriental Daily and Agroworld Magazine. He is certified in IoT-enabled farming and generative AI, and brings manufacturing-grade discipline to the agriculture sector.
